Have you done an underwear purge? I just did.
Earlier this week we posted an infographic from Garçon Model about men’s underwear habits. It noted that the average guy holds onto underwear for 3-4 years or more. Wow.
I’ve grabbed some new underwear over the past few weeks (from Baskit, aussieBum, PPU and 2(x)ist), and as I tried to incorporate them into my underwear drawer, I ran into a problem. It was overflowing. Was I holding onto underwear too long?
What Do You Do With An Overflowing Drawer?
So I did something I haven’t done in forever. I went through every single pair of underwear in my drawer – jocks, jock briefs, thongs, briefs, boxers, trunks, boxer briefs. You name it, I took each one out and judged whether it was worthy to remain.
The result? This pile. All of which were tossed out.
My Criteria For Purging
I didn’t approach this scientifically, I just looked at things that I:
- Didn’t wear much if at all.
- Were super old.
- Were worn out.
- Didn’t fit.
- Were a style I didn’t like.
- Were duplicates (and not a favorite style/brand).
I didn’t actually count them (I know, I know) but I estimate there were probably 60 pair in the pile. And my drawer is still quite full… it’s just not overflowing.
